LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER GUIDELINES AND CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

 

The library media center is to be quiet at all times as

great minds are at work learning new and challenging information.

 GUIDELINES

~Every student will have an opportunity to use the library at least once a week.

~Students will be excused from study hall at the discretion of the study hall teacher after attendance.

~Study hall students will be escorted to the library by the librarian.

~Students may not leave the library to return to study hall during the class period.

~Students may not leave the library to go to see a classroom teacher unless written permission of prior  

   arrangement is presented to the librarian.

~Students may not leave the library to go the guidance office unless written permission of prior arrangement

   is presented to the librarian.

~A student who comes to the library from any location other than study hall must present written permission

   from the teacher who excused the student.

~There are to be no more than two (2) students at each study table.

~There is to be no more than one (1) student at each computer work station.

~Group study (two or more students) is not permitted without permission of the librarian.

 

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

~There are to be no more than 15 study hall students per class period.

~Study hall students are limited to two (2) library visits per week.

~Students are required to bring textbooks and school materials to the library.

~No passes to leave the library will be issued.

~Students holding passes to conference with guidance or a teacher should remain in study hall until the

   designated appointment time.

~No beverages, food, gum, etc. are permitted in the library.  All school policies and rules apply.

~The library will be closed to study hall students during class periods reserved by a teacher.

 

PRINT RESOURCES

~Print materials, except non-circulating reference materials,  may be checked out at the circulation desk.

~Due dates are not stamped on borrowed materials as some research assignments may extend beyond a two

  week timeframe.  Fines will not be charged.

~Returned materials should be placed on the circulation desk.

~Videos and DVD do not circulate to students unless a teacher requests permission for a student to borrow.

 

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

~Computers are available for student use.

~Only purposeful, legitimate academic internet surfing is permitted.

~No internet surfing for non-academic purposes is permitted.

~No personal e-mail is permitted for non-academic purposes.

~E-mail may be used to retrieve academic papers created by the student and saved to another computer.

~E-mail may be used to contact and/or make application to a college or university.

~Students will limit their printing to no more than 6 pages during each computer use.

~Power point presentations will be printed 3 slides per page unless the teacher has indicated otherwise.

 

PENALTIES FOR NOT FOLLOWING GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES

~First offense:  Student will be reminded of the library rules.

~Second offense:  Student will lose library privileges for one (1) week.

~Third offense:  Student will lose library privileges for two (2) weeks.

~Accessing an inappropriate, non-academic website:  Student will be referred to the Dean.
